15 Apr Jacques & Julietta
Today’s session with Jacques and Julietta felt like the beginning of a new chapter in my work — one that leans deeply into storytelling, lived-in environments, and portraits that feel like moments rather than poses.
Jacques (who I’ve had the pleasure of photographing twice before this year) reached out with a creative concept for a couples session with Julietta — who is not only stunning but also an incredibly expressive model. I love working with people I haven’t photographed yet, especially when they’re open to creative direction, so this was instantly an exciting collaboration.
We started in the studio as a warm-up. Since it was Jacques and Julietta’s first time meeting, the studio portraits gave us a chance to build comfort, find a rhythm, and let their natural chemistry reveal itself. Within a few minutes, they were laughing at my quirky jokes, leaning into each other, and creating an atmosphere that felt genuine and relaxed. You honestly wouldn’t guess they’d met only moments before.
My goal for 2026 and beyond is to expand my work outside of controlled studio light and push myself to tell more layered stories — playing with mixed lighting, ambient glow, practical lights, and real environments. The studio portion served as the foundation, but the true magic happened when we moved upstairs into my living room. By then, they were fully comfortable beside one another, allowing us to explore a quieter, more cinematic side of their connection.
We photographed them playing cards, lounging together, and existing as if they were in the privacy of their own home. The combination of warm indoor light, hints of outdoor winter light, and the textures of a lived-in space gave the images a storytelling quality that I’ve been craving in my work. Even my dog tried to insert himself into the shoot — apparently he was ready to upgrade to a new family.
This session marks the beginning of my intentional shift into story-based portraiture. Beautiful studio images will always be part of my craft, but I’m excited to explore these deeper, narrative-driven scenes that reveal something more intimate and human.
Jacques and Julietta brought such openness, trust, and playfulness to the process — and I’m truly proud of what we created together.
