22 Jul Spring in Bloom | Vintage Inspired Floral Portraits with Rebecca Jayne
Spring in Canada always feels far too short.
After months of snow, grey skies, and waiting for colour to return to the world, I find myself wanting to hold onto the season for as long as possible. This year, that meant creating a series of floral-inspired portrait sessions that celebrated spring before it disappeared again.
This session with Montreal model Rebecca Jayne became one of my favourite expressions of that idea.
Travelling from Montreal with her friend for the shoot, Rebecca brought warmth, enthusiasm, and an incredible openness to experimentation throughout the day. Although relatively new to modelling, she moved naturally between expressions and poses, took direction beautifully, and brought an elegance to the session that made the entire process feel effortless.
For the session, I wanted to create something that felt inspired by classic 1950s glamour while still feeling contemporary and fresh.
The incredible Fatima created a soft vintage-inspired hair and makeup look that perfectly captured that balance. Classic styling elements met modern beauty techniques, creating a look that felt timeless rather than costume-inspired. As always, Fatima’s work was exceptional, and collaborating with her is always an absolute pleasure.
To celebrate spring, I filled the studio with flowers and used coloured lighting gels to transform the mood of each set while keeping the overall concept consistent. Rather than changing locations or building entirely new scenes, we allowed colour to shape the atmosphere of each image.
Soft peach tones created warmth and romance, pastel greens introduced freshness and softness, while other colour palettes shifted the emotional feeling of the portraits entirely. The flowers remained a constant thread throughout the session, tying the images together while allowing each set to develop its own personality.
One of my favourite parts of photography is seeing how small creative decisions can completely transform an image without changing the subject itself.
A shift in colour.
A change in light.
A different expression.
Suddenly, an entirely new story appears.
Working with talented collaborators who trust the process enough to explore those ideas alongside me is something I never take for granted.
To have Rebecca travel from Montreal to create with me was incredibly meaningful, and I am deeply grateful for the trust she placed in my work.
