19 Jun Red Sparkled Beauty with Mackenzie
It’s always fun working with new models and working with fresh talent. For this shoot, we had the honour of photographing the beautiful Ottawa based model, Mackenzie. Mackenzie is relatively new to modelling and did an amazing job at our beauty session. Fatima, the amazing makeup artist and hair stylist, created the look for this shoot. For this look, Fatima pulled back Mackenzie’s hair to direct all the attention to her beautiful face and the stunning makeup. Here’s the before and after photo! You can see Mackenzie is a natural beauty from the before photo. Talk about gorgeous skin! The after photo shows how great of a job Fatima did! I love working with Fatima! She is so easy going and very creative. I often give her samples of creative concepts and she always makes it her own and creates flattering looks designed for each model.
I love playing with red tones with photography with having the background red, the makeup red, and her clothing red. It really pops. It also works with other colours as well. For these photos I used hard light to have more strong shadows and beautiful highlights. I really love playing with hard light so whenever I get the opportunity to do so I take advantage. Hard light is often not flattering to older skin because the shadows can enhance wrinkles which usually doesn’t work when photographing women. Mackenzie has young healthy skin so she is the perfect model for this style of lighting.
It is really nice when the portraits you capture come out as you envisioned. This was the case with this shoot. Mackenzie was a great sport allowing us to cover her face with glitter. I still find glitter all around my home studio but it makes me smile. Great memories.
