Kicking off in 2020, boudoir style

Kicking off in 2020, boudoir style

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I am in full swing with boudoir sessions. My first shoot of this year was with the beautiful fitness model, Nadya. I absolutely love the idea of a new start and love trying to outdo myself from last year. It’s like a new fresh sheet of paper, ready to be used.

Many of you know how much I adore natural light. There’s no light like it, especially for boudoir. For this whole shoot, I only used the natural light the pours into my window. I used my main camera, a Canon 5D mark IV, and my 50mm f/1.2 lens at its highest aperture (which allows as much light as possible into my lens). I also used my 24-105mm f/4 to be able to get Nadya’s full body into the image. The room I was shooting in is oddly shaped and near the window the room to shoot is narrow. One thing I have learned about life is you have to do the best with what you have, so that’s exactly what we did. We shot in the early morning, on an overcast day.

These two are photos that Nadya picked. I really loved the soft light pink lingerie with the brown/reddish paint on the wall. I direct my subjects to try to keep their face in the direction of the light (window) as much as possible otherwise their face will be in the shadows. It’s easy to forget this as a model, so it’s the photographer’s job to redirect your model back to the light.

We did some implied nudes with a blanket. The boudoir photos that speak to me are the soft and romantic type – almost dreamy so that’s what I shoot. I love celebrating the woman’s beautiful curves in a feminine way. It’s what my heart loves, and they say follow your heart. I think it’s important to follow your passion in life. My passion has taken me to photography and I am loving every minute and all the great people I have meant along the way.

I had a hard time picking between the black and white or the coloured version. Both are beautiful. I feel I am leaning more to the coloured because I love the colour of Nadya’s eyes.
