08 Apr Halloween Editorial with Jenn – A Tribute to Closer
There’s something truly special about working with Jenn. I’ve had the privilege of photographing her since the very beginning of my photography journey, and every time we collaborate, she brings a spark of imagination and elegance that’s impossible to miss.
This Halloween, we decided to create something cinematic — inspired by Jenn’s favourite movie, Closer, starring Natalie Portman. The concept: a recreation of the iconic strip club scene, full of mystery, drama, and atmosphere.
Jenn had spent years patiently gathering her outfit for this shoot — each piece chosen with incredible attention to detail. That dedication alone deserves an award. Together, we set out to capture the same moody tension and allure that made that scene unforgettable.
We alternated between fuchsia and blue gels, layering the light to echo the emotional push and pull of the film. The result was a dreamy, colour-saturated world that felt both cinematic and raw.
We shot for about two and a half hours, exploring multiple lighting setups, and honestly, the time just disappeared. When creativity flows, you lose all sense of it — especially when the Closer soundtrack is playing softly in the background, setting the tone perfectly.
I don’t get to do creative, concept-driven shoots like this as often as I’d like, but I always love them. They push me just slightly outside my comfort zone while reminding me how much I love the technical challenge of lighting. Even within my limited basement studio, I can always find new ways to make the light tell the story.
Working with Jenn is always a reminder that the best art comes from collaboration — from two people trusting the process, taking risks, and creating something powerful together
