25 Mar Collaborative Fitness and Portrait Session with Jacques Larivière
This session was my second time working with model Jacques Larivière, and it was such a great experience once again. Jacques reached out wanting to capture some fitness-inspired images along with a few professional portraits. I always appreciate when someone I’ve worked with before returns and trusts me to explore both their professional and creative sides in one session.
We started with a mix of headshots and quarter- to full-length portraits of Jacques wearing a red shirt—simple, clean, and classic. For the fitness portion, I decided to shoot in black and white to create a strong, moody atmosphere. To add a creative edge, I incorporated a heavy chain I had previously used in an art project. It instantly gave the images a bold, masculine energy that stood out from typical fitness shots. Later, I added a subtle purple gel for a few frames to experiment with tone and depth, and I loved how the result turned out.
It was a relaxed Saturday shoot—no pressure, just two creatives collaborating and building ideas together. Jacques is a quiet, thoughtful model who listens well, moves naturally, and brings a grounded confidence to every pose. He’s been working steadily around Ottawa with other photographers on portrait and fashion projects, and it’s always fascinating to see how each person captures his look in their own way.
Jacques has a great energy in person and a smile that can light up a room. He’s a pleasure to photograph and a true collaborator. Shoots like this remind me why I love what I do—creating freely, experimenting with light and texture, and connecting through shared artistic curiosity.
