Some photoshoots leave a lasting impression, and this recent session with Krystal and Fatima was one of those magical experiences where everything came together beautifully—even better than I had imagined.

Krystal, a stunning model from Models International Management in Ottawa, was the perfect muse for this creative concept. Her striking orange-red hair, pale skin, and captivating blue-green eyes (which seem to shift depending on her wardrobe!) made her the ideal focal point to build a shoot around. She brings such wonderful energy to set, and I knew right away she’d bring this vision to life.

With Krystal’s unique coloring in mind, I carefully curated a setup to complement and enhance her natural features. I chose a soft light green fabric backdrop and layered it with sheer white fabric to add depth and softness. On the floor, I swapped out the usual hardwood for a gray canvas fabric that subtly tied everything together without distracting from the subject. For seating, I brought in a soft pink chair—its warm tone worked harmoniously with Krystal’s look and the overall color palette.

The wardrobe was a labor of love. I went vintage shopping and found a gorgeous bridesmaid dress on Facebook Marketplace that fit Krystal like it was made for her. I also sourced a canvas-colored and a rust-colored button-up shirt from Value Village to complete the earthy tone direction I had in mind. Ahead of the shoot, I created a detailed mood board and shared it with Krystal, and to my delight, she had a beautiful off-the-shoulder sweater in her own collection that matched the concept perfectly. It added a soft, cozy, and grounded feeling to the images.

Fatima, our makeup artist, brought everything together with a natural, glowing makeup look that enhanced Krystal’s features without overpowering her. She also styled Krystal’s hair into delicate curls, taking her time to ensure each one was just right—and the result was absolute perfection.

The shoot flowed effortlessly. Krystal moved from look to look with ease, delivering authentic expressions, genuine laughter, and beautifully emotive moments that made the entire process feel like a creative dance. The energy on set was warm, upbeat, and collaborative. I even baked some homemade gluten-free chocolate chip cookies for the team and kept the music going to keep the vibe light and fun while they got ready.

This session was one of those rare, fulfilling moments when every detail—the styling, the talent, the mood—aligns to bring a vision to life. Seeing it all come together in the final images moved me to tears (yes, happy tears!) during the editing process. It’s such a rewarding feeling when your ideas materialize so beautifully, especially when you’re supported by a team that truly believes in your creative direction.
